Google Maps OneBox
Google hat mal wieder eine neue OneBox in sein Programm aufgenommen. Diesmal werden die Maps über die Ergebnisse projeziert, bei Angabe einer Adresse. Leider ist das ganze mehr schlecht als recht gelöst worden und hoffentlich noch nicht die endgültige Version. Das erste was mich dabei stört ist, dass der Kartenausschnitt viel zu groß ist. Es wird zwar sofort ersichtlich wo sich der gesuchte Ort befindet, aber das ist von den Usern ja vielleicht garnicht gewünscht. Und so muss man nun fast schon scrollen um zu den ersten Suchergebnissen zu kommen - nicht wirklich komfortabel. Als zweites fällt negativ auf dass die Box aus einem statischen Kartenausschnitt besteht und nicht verschoben oder gar gezoomt werden kann, was am anfang sehr verwirrend ist. Schließlich ist man es gewohnt auch mit den kleinen Kartenausschnitten zu interagieren - beispielsweise bei den Maps-Suchergebnissen. Erst ein Klick auf den Link neben der Karte führt dann zum eigentlichen interaktivem und natürlich noch größerem Ausschnitt. Dies hätte man durch eine kleinere und interaktive Karte natürlich sehr viel besser lösen können. Früher gab es diese Maps-OneBox übrigens auch schon, allerdings nur in Textform und mit einem Link auf die gewünschte Karte. Die OneBox wird derzeit wahrscheinlich nur getestet, zumindest taucht sie nur bei sehr wenigen Suchbegriffen auf. Microsoft
Langsam muss Microsoft wohl zugeben, dass Google zu einem der größten Konkurrenten gehört. Still und heimlich gestehen sie es auch immer mehr ein - und suchen jetzt sogar Google-Experten die es mit der bunten Suchmaschine aufnehmen können. Gesucht wird ein "Google Compete Lead" für den chinesischen Raum. Microsoft scheint es wohl von außen hin nicht mehr gebacken zu bekommen mit Google mitzuhalten. Also muss jetzt ein Experte eingestellt werden der Google in- und auswendig kennt und sich vielleicht auch mit der zukünftigen Planung vertraut macht. Genau geht es wohl darum, zu analysieren welche Lücken Google noch offen hat und wie Microsoft sie mit eigenen Angeboten möglichst schnell schließen kann. Hier das komplette Job-Profil:

WiFi Die Domain wifi.google.com leitet zwar auf die Google-Startseite um, aber trotzdem befindet sich dahinter versteckt eine Menge an Inhalt. Der Googlified-Blog hat dahinter eine Support-Seite, eine Diskussionsgruppe und eine Google Map mit Verfügbarkeitsanzeige gefunden. Auf der Karte werden die Stellen angezeigt an der das surfen vermutlich am schnellsten von statten geht und an welchen Plätzen man besser nicht versuchen sollte online zu gehen - Stichwort Funkloch. Laut der Karten-Legende sollen hier grüne und blaue Punkte Auskunft darüber geben wo Hotspots installiert sind, aber bei mir präsentiert sich die Karte völlig leer.
