Und wieder einmal sagt ein Googler Good Bye: Justin Rosenstein, seines Zeichens Entwicklungsleiter von Google Pages und dem mit Spannung erwartetem GDrive verlässt seinen Arbeitgeber in Mountain View und tritt eine neue Stelle bei facebook an. Wieder einmal ein herber Rückschlag für das GDrive...
Justin begründetet seinen Abschied von Google folgendermaßen:
A couple of months ago, after three years as a Google product manager, I decided to leave for Facebook. I am writing this note to spread Good News to all the friends I haven’t already overwhelmed with my enthusiasm: Facebook really is That company.
Which company? That one. That company that shows up once in a very long while — the Google of yesterday, the Microsoft of long ago. That company where large numbers of stunningly-brilliant people congregate and feed off each other’s genius. That company that’s doing with 60 engineers what teams of 600 can’t pull off. That company that’s on the cusp of Changing The World, that’s still small enough where each employee has a huge impact on the organization, where you think about working now and again, and where you know you’ll kick yourself in three years if you don’t jump on the bandwagon now, even after someone had told you that it was rolling toward the promised land. That company where everyone seems to be having the time of their life.

Es scheint so dass Google sich langsam von der Unique Company zu einem ganz normalem schwerfälligem Unternehmen entwickelt hat. Das ist für uns User nach außen hin noch nicht bemerkbar, dürfte aber zumindest intern dafür sorgen dass in letzter Zeit auffällig viele Googler von Bord springen.
Justin könnte davon frustriert sein dass seine beiden Babys Google-intern nicht so behandelt werden wie er sich das gedacht hat. Das letzte Update des Page Creators (Alle Artikel)ist schon eine Zeit her, der Service wird kaum promotet und auch das GDrive wird wohl erst an dem Tag veröffentlicht an dem die Hölle zufriert. Seit 5 Jahren ist es bereit, aber es kann sich einfach kein Chef-Googler dazu überwinden den "Publish"-Button zu klicken... das dürfte Justings Entscheidung, zu facebook zu wechseln, sicher stark beeinflusst haben.
Wenn das so weiter geht kommt das facebook-Drive und facebook-Presentations früher als die entsprechenden Google Pendants...

Today we released a new feature for Page Creator that has been near the top of everyone's wish list. We proudly announce the ability to change or delete your home page in Page Creator. To delete your homepage, simply highlight it in the site manager and hit delete. You will receive the obligatory warning message asking you if you're sure you want to delete the page. Simply hit yes and your page will be gone. To change your home page, click on the "Site settings" link in site manager. Under the "Homepage" option you will see a drop down menu listing all of the pages you've created. Click on the one you wish to be your homepage and it will be changed. You can click on the "Go to my homepage" link to view it if you wish. Please keep in mind that the page must be published before it can be viewed otherwise you'll receive an error message saying "Sorry...but that beautiful web page you're looking for isn't here yet. Stay tuned!" We're excited about being able to release a new feature that was highly requested by our users and hope this is the first of more to come.

Zumindest auf Google Presentations scheinen wir nicht mehr warten zu müssen: http://cnsltnts.blogspot.com/.
Offensichtlich werden zumindest die Google Apps nach und nach mit Google Presentations ausgestattet.
